What Can You Expect from the Laser Tattoo
Removal Process?
The laser tattoo removal process is a process
designed to completely removed tattoos without
leaving scars or discolored blotches behind.
This process uses high energy light lasers to
break down the tattoo ink into microscopic
particles that can be absorbed by the skin
leaving a healthy looking skin tone behind.
During this process, high intensity light pulses
are passed through the top layers of the skin
and absorbed by the ink pigments. The tattoo
will then be partially removed with the scab and
the remainder of it will be absorbed by the body
and flushed out through the bodies own cleansing
systems.
It is important to know that laser tattoo
removal will require several treatments
depending on the quality of the tattoo and the
type of ink used by the tattoo artist. The
number of treatments required will also depend
on the dept of the tattoo into the skin layers.
Normally, a professional tattoo will require six
to twelve treatments for successful removal.
Homemade tattoos and traumatic tattoos typically
require two to six treatment sessions. Blue and
black ink tattoos are easily removed while other
colors such as pastels like orange, yellow,
powder blue and pink will are much tougher to
remove. We cannot guarantee complete removal of
these colors. This is due to the wave length of
the laser being unable to directly target these
colors. In addition, pastel colors often
resemble the skin pigments and are difficult to
completely remove without damaging the skin.
Skin color will also affect the number of
treatments needed and the efficiency of the
tattoo removal procedure. People with darker
color skin can only be treated for the removal
of black and blue tattoo ink.
Clean Slate Tattoo Removal may also be able to
treat previously treated tattoos which have not
been completely removed. This will depend on the
condition of the previously treated tattoo. Your
options may be limited in the case of excessive
scarring. Your options for full removal of the
tattoo will be discussed during your initial
consultation.
Clean Slate Tattoo Removal can also use the same
process with great success in the removal of age
or liver spots.
In general, the tattoo removal process will be
conducted as follows:
- Protective eye shields are placed on the
patient.
- The skin's reaction to the laser is tested to
determine the most effective energy for
treatment.
- The treatment itself consists of placing a
hand piece against the surface of the skin and
activating the laser light. As many patients
describe it, each pulse feels like a grease
splatter or the snapping of a rubber band
against the skin.
- Smaller tattoos require fewer pulses while
larger ones require more. In either case, the
tattoo requires several treatments and multiple
visits. At each treatment, the tattoo should
become progressively lighter.
- Immediately following treatment, an ice pack
is applied to soothe the treated area. The
patient will then be asked to apply a topical
antibiotic cream or ointment. A bandage or patch
will be used to protect the site and it should
likewise be covered with a sun block when out in
the sun.
For most patients, no anesthesia is required for
the process. However, depending on the size and
age of the tattoo, the location, and the
patient’s pain tolerance, the Dr. can elect to
apply a topical anesthetic usually in the form
of cream.
